Sixth for Arianna Fidanza at Trofeo Oro in Euro

Arianna takes sixth in the bunch sprint, with Marta Lach and Nina Berton finishing inside the Top 20.

A double race weekend in Italy saw the team who took on Strade Bianche line up the following morning for Trofeo Oro in Euro with the addition of Martina Fidanza. Taking place over two circuits, the local laps were uneventful, with Nina Berton, Alice Maria Arzuffi and Cedrine Kerbaol keeping A. Fidanza and Lach in position near the front.

Once the smaller, local laps were done, we moved on to the circuit with a 3.5km climb, which was sure to be the deciding point in the race. Trek Segafredo attacked from the bottom of the climb. Lach, Arzuffi and A. Fidanza took up the chase behind but the damage was already done. The gap to Realini and Spratt was already almost 1'00" as they reached the bottom of the descent, growing to 1'45".

Arzuffi took control of the descent on the flatter part of the circuit, taking 30" out of the deficit by the time the group crossed the finish line for the penultimate time. Keeping the pressure on until the next time up the climb, A. Fidanza and Lach reached the lower slopes in good position and could counter any attacks as it became clear the race was now for the third podium spot.

Into the last kilometre, the third group on the road caught the group with A. Fidanza, Lach and Arzuffi, and carried more speed to the line. Arianna finished sixth overall.

Arianna Fidanza was pleased with the team's efforts: "It was a really fast race, but we raced like a team. We were always together, always in a good position. The climb was always going to make the final selection, but unfortunately in the last 500m, we were caught by the group behind. This was a bit of a surprise and I lost momentum in the final sprint, but in the end, sixth is still good!"

CERATIZIT-WNT Sports Director Steven Sergeant said: "I'm extremely proud of how the team raced this weekend. We deserved a better result, but luck wasn't with us this time. Alice, Nina and Cedrine did a really good job protecting Arianna and Marta in the local laps, keeping them out of trouble as the bunch was really fast. After the climb, Alice tried her best to keep the group rolling and reduce the gap. We couldn't have done any more to bring it back and in the end, we took points with Marta, Arianna and Nina so we're happy."
