Cedrine Kerbaol wins Stage Two of the Tour de Normandie Femmes

Cedrine Kerbaol launches a blistering 5km solo attack to take the stage and top the General Classification, while Nina Berton secures the Climbers Jersey ahead of stage three.

Today's stage was always going to be the most important for the GC contenders, with plenty of bonus seconds up for grabs. Attacking early, Cedrine Kerbaol picked up two seconds in the first of the intermediate sprints before settling back into the peloton. Nina Berton was up next, alert to the three climbs that lay ahead and the team ensured she was well positioned to claim eight extra points, securing the Climbers Jersey as long as she finishes tomorrow's stage.

On the penultimate climb a small break formed but sat up within two kilometres. Kerbaol, sensing an opportunity took this as her moment to strike, attacking with 5km to the finish. Her speed caught the peloton by surprise, and she quickly opened a gap of around 15" which she maintained until the final kilometre to cross the line solo for her first professional victory.

All went as planned, according to Cedrine, "We had a plan and we executed it perfectly... it was perfect! The team did a big job. Nina was always present in the front, and I tried to be patient... not something I've done before! On the second to last climb, some girls attacked and when they went a little bit easier, I attacked again. Then 5km solo... it was so hard. It was only on the last climb that I started to think I might win. It's a super victory for the whole team, and the whole team worked so hard for it. It's the team who won today."
