Sandra Alonso takes our first podium at LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour 2023

Alonso launched a solo attack with 35km to the finish before being caught in the final few meters, ultimately taking third on the stage and the 'Most Active Rider' prize.

Sandra Alonso was pleased with her post-injury progress, "It was an amazing day, and it's only my second week back racing after I broke my collarbone so this is a special result. In the meeting this morning, we made a plan to try to beat SD Worx by being in an early break. I tried earlier in the race but finally, I was able to escape with 35km to the finish. At first, I wasn't sure if I believed it would work because I never got more than 40 seconds from the bunch but as soon as we got to the last 10 kilometres and the other girl joined me I thought maybe we could do something. In the end, they caught us super close to the line and I tried to keep position. My teammates were great, they helped me a lot. They covered every counter-attack from the peloton and were cheering for me on the radio so it really made me smile."
