Mylène de Zoete takes first WorldTour win at Tour of Chongming Island

Mylène powers to her first professional victory in China, making her the first Continental rider to win a WorldTour race in 2023.

Another strong team performance opened the penultimate race of the season today. Every rider played a vital role, with Laura Asencio contributing to the pursuit of the breakaway, Marta Lach and Lana Eberle beginning the leadout and Fidanza also sprinting to 5th.

Intending to finish the leadout for Fidanza, de Zoete admitted after the race that they were surprised by how quickly the finish line appeared, due to the super high speeds that the wide, flat finish allowed. 

"I was supposed to be the leadout! So I was confused at the finish, as for a leadout rider your focus is on the rider behind you. But it was super fast, and the finish line suddenly appeared in front of us. The whole team is super happy. It's exciting to think we'll be in the Leader's jersey tomorrow so we will do our best to defend it over the next stages and hopefully win a World Tour stage race."

De Zoete leads the General Classification and Sprint competitions, while Fidanza sits 10th heading in to stage two.
