Third for Marta Lach on Stage 4 Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour

Marta Lach took her second podium in as many days at the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour with a third-place finish on stage 4.

The rolling 129km route was always going to be a challenge with more than 1200m of elevation in the final 50km alone, but the race was made more difficult with strong winds and rain from the start. Multiple attacks were launched from kilometre 0, but it wasn't until the first intermediate sprint that the peloton began to split.

Lisa Brennauer, Marta Lach, Lin Teutenberg and Maria Guilia Confalonieri made it into the front group, making it to the final QOM point of the day, where the gaps began to reopen again. Several riders, including Lach, tried to attack more than once in the final 20km but were continuously bought back until the greatly reduced bunch was left to sprint to the line.

Alex Manly of Team Bike Exchange-Jayco was first across the line, with Lach in third and Confalonieri finishing in 10th place.

Lach had this to say after the stage: "I'm super happy with third today, and that I am still second on GC. It was a very hard stage so it's nice to finish with a podium. We will continue to fight for a stage win but we can be very pleased with the team performance so far"

CERATIZIT WNT DS, Steffen Radochla added: "It was a very tough race with a lot of rain and wind in the first hour and a half and a lot of steep climbs in the last 50km. In the end, it was more like an elimination race. The team did a very good job. Marta tried to attack a few times to put the GC teams under pressure but was bought back and fought well for third. Maria Giuilia also did very well to finish 10th. We would still like a stage win, but we are very happy with the results so far"
