Sandra Alonso takes bronze in Spanish Time Trial Championships

Sandra Alonso takes bronze in the Spanish Time Trial Championships.

23 year old, Sandra Alonso finished 3rd in the Spanish Time Trial National Championships, coming away from the 21.6km time trial with a bronze medal.

The time trial, which was held in Cala Millor in Mallorca, saw a very close battle for the silver medal between Sandra and Movistar's Sheyla Gutierrez, only 0'00"56 of a second separating the two riders. Mavi Garcia took the gold medal 00'52" ahead of Alonso.

Speaking of the bronze medal post race, Sandra said: "Wow, I’m super happy! First of all because the Time Trial is a race I really like but never have done well in it during my career. This year I have an Orbea Time Trial bike at home so I could train more often on it.
This is reflected in todays result and made me trust I could be a good specialist in this kind of race. It was a close fight for this silver medal, but I’m happy because I gave my best and achieved the bronze medal.

What happened at the Tour de Suisse with my false positive COVID-19 rapid test, meant I had to change all of my preparation for this national championships. I was a bit worried because I thought I wouldn't be able to race, but I kept concentrated and did not lose the trust on myself and my performance. Also the team kept me relaxed and made me confident, so they are also part of this great result."

Sandra will race the road race tomorrow.
