Sandra Alonso sprints to third in the Mediterranean Games Women's Road Race

Sandra Alonso wins a bronze medal for Spain at the Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria.

The 22nd Mediterranean Games featured a short and relatively flat course for the Women's race (80km / 469m), ensuring a fierce battle between the sprinters for the podium positions. 

Alonso explained: "It was a super-fast race, full of attacks from the start as everyone wanted to be in the breakaway. Our goal was for it to end in a sprint, and the team [Spain] worked so hard to make that happen. In the end, I finished 3rd and I am pleased with the result. The Mediterranean Games is a new experience for me, so to leave with a medal makes me very happy."
