Lin Teutenberg Finishes 10th in Reggio Emilia - Stage 5 Giro Donne

Lin Teutenberg sprints to 10th on another hot stage of the Giro Donne, with Marta Lach 12th.

Today's 126km flat stage was a day for the sprinters, and the peloton knowing that it was likely to come down to a bunch sprint in the end was happy to let the early breakaway of five gain some time over the first 50km. The team, missing out on a place in the breakaway focused their energies on the finale and a strong leadout for Martina Fidanza.

With 7km to go, the break was over and the team began to move into position with Franzi Brausse taking up her place at the front of the peloton. Unfortunately, after being caught in the crash with 1km to go, the team's leadout was disrupted, leaving Lin Teutenberg and Marta Lach to sprint to the line, taking 10th and 12th place respectively. Fidanza was unfortunately bought down in the crash but was able to finish the stage.

"I heard the crash but didn't see it, so when Lara told us that Martina had crashed I tried to move up. Marta and I just had to try after that. Luckily we had started the leadout so we were in a good position going into the last corner. Under the circumstances, we can be happy with 10th today" - Teutenberg explained.

CERATIZIT-WNT DS Steven Sergeant said after the finish: "The plan today was to get into the breakaway but it didn't happen for us so instead we put our energy into the finish. The girls set up an excellent leadout for Martina, but the 1km barrier was too narrow for the bunch and she was caught in a crash because of it. Marta and Lin were able to continue, however, and their results certainly saved the day for us."
