Double Irish champion re-signs for Team WNT

With the announcement that double Irish National Road Race Champion Lydia Boylan has re-signed for 2017 with Team WNT the Sheffield-based team now contains two national champions among its ranks, confirming the determination of the squad to push for honours as it steps up to UCI level next season.
In addition to retaining her Irish championship, Lydia also took an impressive second place, in difficult conditions at Ireland’s premier ladies stage race, the Rás na mBan, helping Team WNT take the overall team win in the event. Lydia comments: “2016 has been another incredible year with Team WNT. The support provided by the team and the management of WNT has been second to none and was instrumental in my successful defence of the Irish National Road Race Championship. Following that with the success in the Rás na mBan was the icing on the cake. The decision to stay with Team WNT was an easy one and the opportunity to push further in 2017 and compete across Europe as a UCI team will be something quite special I’m sure.”
Lydia is the latest of the 2016 squad to re-sign with Team WNT as it looks to retain talent from what was a successful season while further developing the squad with new signings such as British National Road Race Champion Eileen Roe and Gabriella Shaw, who has been on the winning team in the Matrix Fitness GP Series for the past three years. The 2017 roster of riders will provide a complimentary mix of styles and abilities that will stand the team well as it moves up to Continental level racing as well as competing in UK races.

Claude Sun, Global Managing Director WNT says: “Having Lydia return for another year is a big advantage for Team WNT as we look to build on our success. For such a young team, albeit an ambitious one, we are excited by the fact that we can boast two national champions among our riders. This highlights the fact that we are building for success and in doing so creating a team and work ethic that top level riders want to be a part of. This all bodes well for the future of the team.”
