Austrian all-rounder adds more international flavour to Team WNT

Team WNT is proud to announce the latest signing for the 2017 season with the arrival of 19-year-old, Austrian rider, Anna Badegruber on a two-year contract. As the reigning Austrian National Hill Climb Championship and claiming a top five position in every under 23 championship in the country, Anna can be acclaimed as one of Austria’s stand out young all-round cycling talents, who is constantly improving and developing her performances, especially in areas such as time trialling.

Commenting on her signing Anna says “I’m really happy and excited to be part of Team WNT for the upcoming season. I think I can learn a lot from the riders and staff, this is a chance to develop myself and to reach my dream of being a professional rider. I hope I can help the team gain top results and that we have a good season together.”

This latest signing adds a further link to team sponsor WNT, as it has very strong Austrian connections. The main Ceratizit manufacturing facility, a member of the Plansee Group, is located in the picturesque town of Reutte; where over 1000 employees are active in the production and development of its core hard metal products for industrial use. This factory in Reutte was the starting point of the original Metallwerke Plansee company founded by Dr Paul Schwarzkopf in 1921, producing tungsten filament for the lighting industry. In the intervening years, it has grown into the global Plansee Group employing almost 6400 people worldwide, with €1.2bn turnover.

Claude Sun, Global Managing Director WNT says: “With the signing of Anna on a two-year contract in preparation for the 2018 World Championships which will be held in Innsbruck, Austria, a home race for Anna. We are continuing our plan to build a strong and versatile group of elite cyclists that will challenge for honours. This will be an exciting season for what is still a relatively young team as it targets progression to the next level of UCI elite level racing. It also brings an added connection to the team for our employees, as a high proportion of them are also keen cyclists.”
