Eileen Roe set to defend her title as the National Circuit Championships come to Sheffield

Team WNT Pro Cycling’s Eileen Roe is looking to defend her National Circuit (Criterium) title when the championships are held in the home of her team sponsor’s UK subsidiary, Sheffield on Wednesday 19th July. Team WNT Pro Cycling will be fielding a strong team to support Eileen in her attempt to retain the title and the prestigious red, white and blue national champions’ jerseys that she wore with pride while recently breaking the record for the most wins in the recent Matrix Fitness Tour series of city centre races.

Team WNT Pro Cycling stepped up to UCI level in 2017 recruiting multiple National and Olympic Champions to its squad that in addition to current National Circuit Champion Eileen Roe, includes Olympic and World Champion Katie Archibald, Irish National Road Race Champion Lydia Boylan, Multiple British National Champion Hayley Simmonds supported by Anna Badegruber, Becca Carter, Natalie Grinczer, Hayley Jones, Emily Kay, Josie Knight, Elise Maes, Keira McVitty, Bex Rimmington, Gabriella Shaw, and Hannah Walker. This internationally diverse team represents the spirit of team sponsor WNT. This strength in depth has already proved its worth with Team WNT Pro Cycling taking a number of victories already in 2017, in what was billed as a ’development year’ by team management.

WNT Group, the team’s sponsor, is a sales organisation supplying precision cutting tools to the metal cutting industry and is represented internationally in 19 countries with its headquarters in Germany. Its first subsidiary was WNT (UK) which opened in 1999, with Sheffield being chosen as its UK base due to its metalworking history and central location. From its modern technical centre WNT (UK) supports customers across the UK and Ireland with the latest cutting tool technology.

“WNT has always had a strong affinity with sport, which began with in-house activities and customer sporting events that reflect the company’s core values of creating goodwill, sportsmanship, fighting spirit and team spirit. Cycling is especially important to us, because it is ideally suited to the tangible values required for all employees. More important however, is that a direct link exists with our core business. Many of the production processes for high-quality bicycle components require our quality tools for manufacture. For WNT, it is therefore obvious to incorporate cycling in our sponsorship commitments. However, it doesn’t end with sponsorship of cycling teams, in the field of motorsport we have also committed ourselves, and have become active as the main sponsor of a motorcycle racing team. The opportunity to promote these values through the National Circuit Championships in Sheffield where our UK business is based is one that we are looking forward to,” says Tony Pennington, Managing Director, WNT (UK).
