Hayley Jones and Lydia Boylan re-sign for Team WNT Pro Cycling

Two of the key riders in the team during 2017 have renewed their contracts for 2018.

Three times Irish road race champion, Lydia Boylan returns for her fourth year in Team WNT’s colours. Boylan has continued to impress year upon year and that didn’t stop when Team WNT Pro Cycling became a UCI Women’s team. Lydia took the team’s first UCI professional win at Setmana Ciclista Valenciana in March, as well as defending her Irish Champions jersey for a third consecutive year.

World Managing Director Claude Sun says ‘Setmana Ciclista Valenciana was our first race as a professional outfit, and for Lydia to have taken a solo stage win against some world class riders was fantastic. I’m delighted she’ll be with us again in 2018.’

Speaking from Bergen, Norway ahead of her first World Road Championships, Lydia says ‘It’s been an incredible year with the team and it couldn’t have started any better. My first professional win coming in my first professional race. You can’t ask for more than that!’

‘The team has stepped up on all fronts this year; riders and staff; and I am incredibly proud to be a part of that progression for another year’

21-year-old Welsh power house, Hayley Jones returns for her second year on the team, having played a key part in our team’s victories and exceptional results, despite breaking her collarbone in April, putting her out of racing for 6 weeks in the height of the season.

Hayley says ‘As a team we had a great first season together, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it again next year. After starting the season on good form, I crashed towards the end of April, however the team put a lot of trust and faith into me to be on the start line of the OVO Energy Women’s Tour only 6 weeks later.’

‘I came back for the second part of the season stronger than ever placing 22nd in the Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta. Building on a great road season, I am excited that the team are supporting me in my goals of racing on the track this winter, in the Revolution Series and the Track World Cups with my one of my aims for 2018, the Commonwealth Games’.

Jones is rider who has a wise head on young shoulders, she is one of the most tactically astute riders whilst being very versatile across all aspects of racing proving she can turn her legs to anything. With big aims to represent Wales for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, held in the Gold Coast in April, Hayley will play a big part in our early to mid-season races.

‘Hayley broke her collarbone in April, and came back stronger to play a major part in Katie Archibald’s results in the OVO Energy Women’s Tour in June as well as Hayley Simmonds’ stage win during the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in July. She’s a great team captain for our squad, and I know she’ll lead our team to great success in 2018’ says DS, Graeme Herd.
